Vipp is a Danish, 3rd generation family–owned design company. Founded by metalsmith Holger Nielsen in the small town of Randers, Denmark in 1939, his entrepreneurial debut was a practical waste bin initially crafted for his wife’s hair salon. When Holger passes away in the beginning of the nineties, his daughter Jette inherits the bin and a metal workshop in the backyard of her childhood home in Randers. Joined by her children, Kasper and Sofie, they set out to transform the bin into a brand.Today, with its steadfast commitment to product engineering and design, Vipp equals a full–blown design universe of furniture, lighting, accessories, kitchens, and guesthouses.

At Vipp’s Copenhagen campus, Barcelona–based architecture and design studio Mesura presents their vibrant take on the Vipp guesthouse. Rooted in the celebratory atmosphere of Danish Midsummer, the ephemeral guesthouse unfolds across Vipp’s courtyard and garage as a spatial playhouse—an immersive installation inspired by the simple act of a picnic, where a vibrant plaid fabric is draped across the space and over Vipp’s furniture, shaping a shared landscape for rest, conversation, and play. In doing so, it transforms the guesthouse from a secluded retreat into a more communal, social environment—from guesthouse to playhouse.

Material Matters is a platform dedicated to exploring the role of material intelligence in architecture and design. With more than 150 podcasts published and four acclaimed editions of its annual fair staged in London, the brand made its international debut in Copenhagen in 2025 as part of 3daysofdesign. The debut fair exceeded expectations and confirmed the appetite for a deeper, more material–led conversation during Copenhagen's design festival. Building on this success, Material Matters returns to 3daysofdesign, reflecting design and architecture's fascination with what materials can do—and what they should no longer be asked to do.
