Proof of Concept is a dynamic exhibition platform exploring the intricate and captivating processes behind design. Showcasing work from a collective of multidisciplinary studios, it highlights self–initiated projects, products that never reached the market, and designs already in circulation. By shedding light on the extensive development process, the exhibition offers a rare glimpse into the evolution of a product—revealing the ideas, challenges, and creativity that shape its journey.

Proof of Concept — Connect is an exhibition that explores how materials, processes, construction and craftsmanship shape our relationship with everyday objects. Designers are invited to consider the role of tactile experiences, traditional techniques, and innovation in forging deeper connections between makers, users, and the spaces we inhabit. Through this exploration, the exhibition celebrates the tangible bonds that bring design to life.

Copenhagen based Icelandic designer Dögg Guðmundsdóttir creates nature inspired products with emotional appeal and a distinctive touch of Nordic originality. Many of her designs are based on foundational structures or pieces of art, while others form part of a collection. For this exhibition, nature is not merely an inspiration but an integral part of the essence of the works and of the installation, created in collaboration with Dýpi—an ocean paint made from calcareous algae harvested in Iceland. Dýpi was nominated for the Icelandic Design Awards 2025 for its product that is exceptionally breathable, environmentally friendly, plastic–free, and an innovative use of abundant natural materials.

CONCRETE VESSELS AND RELIEFS BY SUSANNE STORM MERGE ARTISTIC EXPRESSION, MATERIAL KNOWLEDGE, AND FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE. Working with a material traditionally associated with weight, Susanne Storm destabilises this assumption. By sculpting in concrete, she has only a brief period in which to shape the work. The intensity of this creation process extends to her sculptural vessels and reliefs. The resulting forms appear almost alive, retaining the movement that generated them. Cracks, layers, and surface marks remain as traces of transformation. The choice of colour feels effortless, allowing the works to appear beautiful both together and individually, perhaps especially in contrast to modern, strict design. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

Gemla is a contemporary furniture maker—and always has been. Yet at the same time, they verge on being an anachronism. Always have. The company was founded in 1861, specialising in steam–bent furniture. It’s steam that makes bentwood furniture so exceptionally durable, yet graceful. On the factory floor, guided by the knowledge of craft, the brand meets patience, care and sustainability, passed down through generations. It’s no coincidence that its pieces are in high demand for hotels and restaurants—settings that require equal parts aesthetics and durability.

The story of each object begins with an idea and evolves through sketches and prototypes into a well–considered result. Working exclusively with solid hardwoods, ykoon employs traditional joinery techniques, reflecting a deep respect for craftsmanship. Sustainability, tradition and character come together in objects shaped with care and intention.
