In 1994, Michala Jessen founded RUE VERTE within an historical building dating back to the 1700s located in the vibrant heart of central Copenhagen. RUE VERTE operates as both a concept store, gallery and a design studio.

Copenhagen based Icelandic designer Dögg Guðmundsdóttir creates nature inspired products with emotional appeal and a distinctive touch of Nordic originality. Many of her designs are based on foundational structures or pieces of art, while others form part of a collection. For this exhibition, nature is not merely an inspiration but an integral part of the essence of the works and of the installation, created in collaboration with Dýpi—an ocean paint made from calcareous algae harvested in Iceland. Dýpi was nominated for the Icelandic Design Awards 2025 for its product that is exceptionally breathable, environmentally friendly, plastic–free, and an innovative use of abundant natural materials.

As those who are involved in design in Japan, blessed with rich diversity of materials, Japan Creative focuses on the inherent backgrounds, characteristics and potential of materials themselves, reevaluating their value through a designer’s perspective. Japan Creative believes that only by understanding how materials are shaped by the unique natural environments and climates, and how they are situated, can it move beyond superficial expression and create designs with necessity and sustainability.
