Throughout history, tools have been crucial to humanity’s ability to survive and innovate, from primitive stone tools to advanced machinery, tools have been key to shaping the world. VÆRKTØJ is an exhibition format that aims to communicate and demonstrate how the identities of designers are largely shaped by the tools they use; as tools not only drive the development of ideas and creative processes but also leave a distinct mark on the final product.

VÆRKTØJ 2 : The Workshop Press. The tool that has been selected for this years exhibition and from which all works derive, is the workshop press. Participants: Alvilde Holm, Depping & Jørgensen, Frederik Gustav, John Tree, Jonas Trampedach, Kasper Salto, Michael Antrobus, and Tom Dixon.

Atelier m4 is an award winning, 4th generation furniture brand based in Matsumoto City in Japan. Originating from the 120–year old Maeda Mokugei Studio, atelier m4’s designs are rooted in the style of the Edo samurai and townspeople, characterised by delicate and minimal structures and skilfully joined materials. Perpetually looking to a more sustainable future, atelier m4 have collaborated with researchers and craftsmen to develop new methods to utilise fast–growing coniferous trees and transform discarded wood into elegant, luxurious furniture. Relying solely on hand tools and traditional techniques, atelier m4 creates furniture made with local woods, embodying a deep respect for nature and place and a universal richness in each piece.

Boffi|DePadova's 'Way of Living' is made up of details, customs and practices woven together into a rich tapestry. The group proudly narrates this story via the offering of interior systems and furniture elements where quality and consistency are fundamental values. Versatility and the intelligent use of interior space form the basis of the integrated design offer from Boffi|DePadova. These two aspects are expressed by the group in the way it develops not only individual products with a unique personality, but in its ability to put forth a complete project that conveys a distinct mood by merging different entities. It is a manifesto of contemporary architecture.

What if you could buy a chair that one day turned into a table, shapeshifting with your changing needs? This is the fundamental idea that LOOPE is based on, a new brand, launched by Polish–based, Studio Rygalik who has spent the last years surveying what it means to own furniture, protecting our planet from plastic waste. The result is LOOPE. This brand offers a furniture suite, called the Effects range, that includes five collections, Armstrong, Rounder, ALLin, OneL and faT Table. The distinct idea: made with 100% recycled material, after years of use, any of the products in the range can be returned and transformed into another currently available product.

YUUE is a Berlin-based design studio that reimagines objects for daily life. Run by Chinese-German designer Weng Xinyu, who received design education at Bauhaus University Weimar, Germany and started his studio in Berlin to collaborate with clients around the world. Weng seeks design inspiration by comparing cultures and re-discovering traditions. He explores human-object relationship with special emphasis on interactivity and emotion. He is also interested to use design as an expression to reflect on social problems.
