wa/ter was founded in response to the excessive waste in interior design, where projects are rapidly planned, demolished over time, and never passed down. This led to the fundamental question: “Have we, as designers, failed to create designs with lasting value?” Through design, wa/ter uncovers new meaning and circulation in materials once shaped by human hands but left without purpose.

wa/ter presents a collection of products that embodies its design philosophy—breathing new life into resources that have lost their original purpose. The collection highlights the inherent beauty of materials with minimal intervention, allowing their natural characteristics to take centre stage. It features furniture, objects, and products crafted from recycled glass sourced from CRT television screens and fluorescent lamps, and Tatsuyama stone from Hyogo Prefecture, a material quarried in Japan for 1.500 years. The collection also includes terrazzo, created by blending recycled glass with natural elements like marble, minerals, and soil.

It all started more than 125 years ago, with two families—the Miele and Zinkann families. The engineer Carl Miele and the businessman Reinhard Zinkann founded a company for the manufacture of cream separators in Herzebrock. Their guiding principle becomes the business philosophy: Immer besser. Miele appliances, whether they are used for laundry care, vacuuming or in the kitchen, are subjected to the strictest stress and endurance tests before they are launched on the market. Miele design represents innovation, value and timeless elegance. It shapes the relationship between the person and the product, meets expectations, facilitates handling and creates trust.

ReCraft Design Studio is a Copenhagen-based practice working with reclaimed materials, including demolition waste and production offcuts, to create architectural elements and spatial interventions. Through hands-on experimentation and material research, the studio explores how existing resources can be reintroduced into contemporary design. Focusing on irregular and overlooked materials, ReCraft reveals the inherent qualities of what is already in circulation, extending its life while opening up new possibilities for use. Rather than concealing a materials history, the studio embraces it, allowing surfaces and traces of previous lives to inform new architectural applications.
