The Material Way is a new collaborative platform for material-based studies focused on supporting curious creators who strive to craft a more holistic, local, and nature-minded future. Founded by curator and communicator Rita Trindade (Through Objects) and multidisciplinary designer Bonnie Hvillum (Natural Material Studio), it gathers artists and researchers in two international programs: Local Bio-based Materials and Natural Materials in Ceramics. The culmination of these two programs will be showcased at a group exhibition during Denmark's Design Festival, 3daysofdesign.

During 3daysofdesign, The Material Way unveils bio-based objects & materials crafted by students exploring the intersections of research, ceramics, art, and design. Hosted amidst the green oasis of Øens Have in the RefshaleØen district, this exhibition promises an experimental approach to design, pushing the boundaries of traditional exhibition concepts.

Based in India, the studio is rooted in ancient wisdom, where sustainability and care are integral to everyday living. Working closely with local artisans and locally sourced wood, the furniture draws from South Asian traditions of sitting and spatial setting. Naturally seasoned, aged trees—crafted without nails or screws—form the core language of the work. A life–centred approach ensures no harmful disruptors enter the environment, protecting everyone from maker to end user. Continually pushing the boundaries of furniture typology, the studio explores Indian minimalism while revisiting traditional skills through a contemporary lens, creating pieces that hold space and life in equal measure.
