ATELIER matic is a Japanese design studio founded by Sho Sotoyama in 2012. While designing stores and spaces, the studio creates products based on the concept of what can be truly enjoyed and comfortably integrated into daily life. Specialising in the fusion of natural and artificial materials, the studio creates objects and applied arts using Japanese domestic stones, wood, acrylics, and more. Additionally, original terrazzo materials are developed and used to produce furniture and art pieces.
ATELIER matic will participate in 3daysofdesign under the theme "Possibilities from a Small Garden." This time, they focused on materials that are close to ATELIER matic and often found in everyday life, such as gardens and ateliers. ATELIER matic has created works using familiar resources: Akiu stone laid in the garden, pruned branches, tree bark, rubble from the soil, and a newly developed material made by solidifying sawdust from woodworking. These materials are transformed into small boxes designed to hold plant seeds. Explore the possibilities that begin from here.
