SAIKAIHOP, by Saikai Europe, traces its origins to the Japanese town of Hasami, where the history of porcelain production and innovation spans more than 400 years. As a subsidiary of ceramics trading company Saikai Toki, Saikai Europe’s operations centre on a lineup of original brands merging contemporary design with Hasami’s manufacturing expertise. Birgitte Due Madsen is a Copenhagen-based artist and designer working across furniture, objects, and sculptural form. Her practice centres on materiality, light, and aesthetics, exploring how structure and surface inform both function and perception. Working with materials such as gypsum, resin, wood stone, and concrete, she develops pieces through a process that moves from abstraction to precise realization. The work spans custom commissions, serial designs, and unique pieces, often produced in close dialogue with manufacturers. Defined by tactile textures, controlled colour, and a distinct geometric language, each object reflects a commitment to craftsmanship and a considered approach to form, material, and use.
