SANAYI313 is an Istanbul-based interdisciplinary practice co-founded by two brothers. The brand functions as an umbrella for a diverse spread of creative businesses; a design studio operating a canteen and a curated store offering unconventional shopping experiences. All divisions interact to inspire and nurture each other under one vision. The studio also designs a growing line of products that merge form and function, and are characterised by their details, materiality. Working with noble materials as wood, bronze, glass; the studio focuses on sculptural forms that challenge the capability of the material while highlighting its distinctive features. SANAYI313 favours craft product over industrial manufacturing and works directly with artisans.
The Studio is located in the one of the first planned industrial zones in Istanbul. Crafted from hard-wearing materials; namely stainless steel, painted metal, maple burl veneer, leather, and glass, the new pieces are inspired by elements of auto repair shops and their warehouse architecture. While stainless steel, metal and glass are materials already synonymous with the term ‘industrial’, the leather work evokes car interiors, so does maple burl veneer, notably used in dashboards of classic automobiles. The result is a series of equally functional and sculptural furniture pieces that reflect the refined minimalism of SANAYI313, and capture the studio’s commitment to materiality and high-quality craftsmanship.
