BEFORE VINTAGE FURNITURE is a Japanese furniture brand based in Hokkaido, Japan, creating furniture from valuable wood that has lost its place in the market due to irregular grain, color variations, or other characteristics often overlooked by conventional standards. Through traditional Japanese joinery, architectural thinking, and careful craftsmanship, these materials are given a new purpose and a longer future. Each piece is individually numbered, reflecting the belief that furniture gains character and value as it ages alongside its owner. By embracing the unique qualities of every piece of wood, BEFORE VINTAGE FURNITURE created furniture designed not only for today, but to become the vintage pieces of tomorrow.
BEFORE VINTAGE FURNITURE creates furniture from wood that once had no place in the commercial market. Despite its natural beauty and inherent value, such wood was often overlooked because of knots, irregular grain, or unconventional sizes. Rather than pursuing uniformity, we embrace these characteristics and transform them through precise craftsmanship and architectural thinking. Every work is individually numbered, reflecting our belief that furniture gains value as it lives alongside its owner and gradually matures into what we call “future vintage.” Through this exhibition, BEFORE VINTAGE FURNITURE introduces its philosophy of giving overlooked wood a new future and creating furniture meant to be used across generations.
