An international creative collaborator and invaluable material resource, The American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) is the global face of U.S. hardwoods, championing their performance, sustainability and aesthetic potential to timber markets all over the world.
Wood for the Trees is an immersive exhibition by AHEC, Mitre & Mondays and Benchmark tracing hardwood timber’s journey from forest to finished product. Presented at the Material Matters fair, it transforms the space into an abstract woodland, guiding visitors through five stages: Growth, Planning, Selection, Resilience and Timber. Through tactile installations and audio–visual storytelling, visitors are invited to engage directly, encountering timber and its origins in physical and sensory ways. Blending design, craft and environmental insight, the exhibition highlights the structural, aesthetic and ecological value of American hardwoods while emphasising responsible forestry and long–term sustainability.
