Michael Anastassiades is a Cypriot-born, London-based designer whose practice encompasses product, spatial interventions and experimental works, often transcending the distinctions between different fields of creativity. Anastassiades’ practice contemplates both industrial production and artisan techniques. In doing so, it expands into a vivid, nuanced balance between improvisation and structure, control and intuition. With a career spanning more than 20 years, Anastassiades has conceived lights, furniture and objects characterised by a poetic yet rigorous interpretation of technology, materials and functions. His work draws inspiration from many sources, which he distills into pure, simple structures.
For 3daysofdesign 2023, Michael Anastassiades will be presenting several new collections of lighting, in conversation with a selection of important furniture pieces from Dansk Møbelkunst. The exhibition, 'Stilleben 2' will celebrate Anastassiades’ close relationship with the gallery as well as his admiration for Nordic modernist design. The dialogue of the exhibition takes place through a metaphysical lens, suggesting unconventional connections between the pieces and how they could have been used. The display is a silent narrative of imaginative scenarios, proposing a situation where owners may have just left the scene. The exhibition will be supported by Anker & Co, Michael Anastassiades’ long-standing partner in Scandinavia.
